Ein Artikel in der Sun-Ausgabe vom 7. bis 13. November mit dem Titel „Pläne für Wasseraufbereitungsanlagen genehmigt“ besagt, dass die Kosten für Reparaturen und Neubauten an unseren drei Wasseraufbereitungsanlagen 37,1 Millionen US-Dollar betragen werden.

Die Die ursprüngliche Schätzung, zitiert in „Water Solution Nears“ der Sun (17.–23.–16. Februar), betrug 21 Millionen US-Dollar. Der Preis ist in zwei Jahren um 16 Millionen US-Dollar gestiegen, sodass der endgültige Preis durchaus über 40 Millionen US-Dollar betragen könnte.

Angeblich wird diese Ausgabe es der Gemeinde ermöglichen, zwei industrielle Lösungsmittel aus unserem Wasser zu entfernen: Trichlorethylen (TCE). ) und Trichlorpropan. (TCP).

Diese beiden Chemikalien werden vom Menschen hergestellt. Wie sind sie also in unser Brunnenwasser gelangt?

Im Januar 2013 veröffentlichte Lockheed Martin einen Bericht: „Notification der Umweltuntersuchung und -sanierung.“ Darin hieß es unter anderem: „Während seiner Geschichte verwendete der Standort Borton Landing Road chlorbasierte Lösungsmittelchemikalien bei der Reinigung von Metallteilen … Der Hauptbestandteil (Verunreinigungsstoff), der im Grundwasser gefunden wurde, das mit früheren Standortbetrieben in Zusammenhang stand, ist Trichlorethylen.“

Spuren von TCE und anderen Lösungsmitteln wurden 1987 vor Ort gefunden, aber erst 1994 installierte Lockheed ein Überwachungssystem entlang der Borton Landing Road, um eine weitere Migration von Schadstoffen im Grundwasser über die Grundstücksgrenze hinweg zu verhindern.

Lockheed sagt, dass es „seit 1995 aktiv TCE und andere Bestandteile (Kontaminanten) aus flachem Grundwasser entfernt.“

Trotz seiner Beherrschung fortschrittlicher Technologien ist Lockheed Martin immer noch nicht in der Lage, TCE aus dem Grundwasser zu entfernen Wasser und Boden in seiner Anlage an der Borton Landing Road.

Können unsere Township-Führungskräfte und ihre Auftragnehmer und Berater mit unseren über 37 Millionen US-Dollar einen besseren Job machen als Lockheed? Wahrscheinlich nicht. Stattdessen kann es sein, dass wir TCP und TCE in unserem Wasser in Konzentrationen haben, die den gesetzlich zulässigen Höchstwert für Schadstoffe überschreiten.
